Willowton Group opened its doors for business in 1970 and has grown to become South Africa’s largest sunflower seed crusher as well as one of the leading competitors in the South African ‘Fast Moving Consumer Goods’ market. The group’s success is founded on service excellence, continued investment in technology and human resources and the hands-on involvement of the directors. The companis are also generous corporate donors. In 2010 they gave away R4 million to 40 deserving charities, each receiving R100 000.00 to commemorate the groups 40th anniversary.
Through its Sunfoil brand, the Willowton Group actively sponsors and develops cricket in South Africa at a national and grassroots level. Sunfoil is the sponsor of Proteas Test Series Cricket, Domestic Four Day Series Cricket, and the KwaZulu-Natal Sunfoil Dolphins. In keeping with its commitment to contributing towards the advancement of previously disadvantaged communities and individuals, Willowton Group also contributes to the KZN and Gauteng Cricket Union’s Development Programmes, as well as the Sunfoil Schools Night League Tournament. The company’s Sunfoil Education Fund provides bursaries for children coming through development cricket programmes.
The Willowton Group is also committed to social responsibility beyond sport. Their aim is to make a meaningful difference, and one that can sustain itself into the future, so that all those who have benefited will hopefully one day do the same to others in need. Willowton Group contributes on a regular basis to various religious, welfare and community organisations, and a number of schools in the KwaZulu-Natal region, especially that are in need of funds for building projects. Some of the other regular beneficiaries include Highway Hospice, Pietermaritzburg Community Chest, Msunduzi Hospice, KZN Blind & Deaf Society, SPCA Pietermaritzburg & Natal Settlers Home.
Finally, the Group also makes a contribution to health across society, with a range of products that support the fight against heart disease and stroke, South Africa’s leading non-infectious killers. In this respect they are proud to have been awarded the Platinum Seal of Appreciation by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa. As a result, their ‘Heart Mark’ approved products now display a specially designed Platinum Seal that endorses the initiative.
