Born 26 July 1956, in Durban. Igesund played professional soccer from 1972 to 1993, in various clubs locally and internationally, including Durban United, Durban City, Westham, Crystal Palace (UK), Admira Wacker (Austria), Witbank Black Aces (1985), AmaZulu (1990), Umtata Bush Bucks (1989), Leeds United (1988), D`Alberton Callies (1993), and for African Wanderers (1987, 1995).

One of his earliest achievements is the league titles victory with D`Alberton Callies (1992) and African Wanderers (1994) both teams were promoted to the first division. In 1995 he won the South African Football Association Inter-Provincial tournament. In 1998 he turned down offer to lead South Africa at the African Cup of Nations due to caretaker role.

Igesund is the only coach to have won four national league titles with four different teams: Manning Rangers in 1996/97, Orlando Pirates in 2000/01, Santos in 2001/02 and Sundowns in 2006/07) He has also won the following: BP Top Eight Cup winner (Orlando Pirates 2000/01), SAA Supa 8 winner (Sundowns 2006/07). Igesund won the ABSA Cup Final (2006/7) with Sundowns and Champion of Champions Cup Final Winners Cape Regional trophy (2001/2) with Santos.

Igesund also claimed many finals and semifinals too these include: Telkom Knockout Cup Final (2007/8) and ABSA Cup Final (2006/7) with Sundowns, ABSA Cup final (2002/3) with Santos, Rothmans Cup Final (2000/01) with Orlando Pirates, ABSA Cup Semi Final (2005/6) with Sundowns, Semi-final Coca Cola Cup (2001/2) with Santos, Rothmans Cup Semi-final (1997/8) with Manning Rangers.

In 2004, Gordon was voted coach of the decade in acknowledgment of his longstanding career. He is currently the head coach of Highlands Park FC.
