Dr Sam Ramsamy, born on the 27th January 1938 in Durban, was known as a prominent educator, activist and sports administrator.

He led the first non-racial South African team to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and has served with the International Swimming Federation bureau.

As the current vice-president and official FINA spokesman he recently joined the FINA family gathered in Lausanne (SUI) for the celebration of FINA’s 110th anniversary and the official inauguration of the new FINA Headquarters.

Many IOC members and other distinguished sports dignitaries were also present in the ceremony, where a symbolic ribbon was cut.
