The Department of Arts and Culture partnered with the Nelson Mandela Chatsworth Youth Centre and held two free master classes on the craft of writing plays for the theatre.

The classes were held on July 5 and 6 and was run by renowned novelist, short story writer, playwright and director, Ronnie Govender.

The object of the master class was to acquaint young theatre enthusiasts with the experience and knowledge of leading South African arts practitioners like Ronnie Govender, who has achieved excellence in the arts against all odds, while making significant contributions to the liberation struggle. He conducted classes on the art of writing plays. Ronnie Govender was a 2009 eThekwini Living Legend.
