Lucas Nel, local marathon runner, was 87 in 2011 when he received his eThekwini Living Legend award – an age by which most people would definitely have packed away their running shoes. But not the case with Nel, who two years after he received his award set the World Masters Record at the age of 90 for the 200m in Brazil, with a time of 38,04 seconds – a record that he still holds today! It may have been a few years ago now, but a record like that is well worth celebrating agains and again!
A belated congratulations to Nel who has achieved what to most of us seem completely unachievable heights, even as a nonagenarian!
